A Relationship With God

Is it possible to have a relationship with God? Many people wonder if God is relational since we can not see or touch Him. But there are many people who we can't see with whom we have relationships. For example, my father lives in DeWitt, IA and when I lived in Aurora, CO, we had a great relationship. We talked on the phone and emailed each other a few times a week. Just because I could not see or touch him, did not limit my relationship with my father.

Our First Relationship

Our lives are full of relationships. Our first relationship is between a person and God. We are all in a relationship with God; sometimes it is a healthy relationship with open communication, love and forgiveness. Other times it is a strained relationship blocked by guilt and shame, yearning to be restored. We are all in the process of realizing our relationship with God and each other.

God is relational, He created us to be in relationship with Him and the people around us. That is why God sent His Son, Jesus, to show us who God is and restore our relationship with Him. God has determined the way to a healthy, vital relationship with Him is through faith in His Son. Many people are trying to get to God through on their own through their own way. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus is the way to a renewed relationship with God.

Our Second Relationship

Our second relationship is our relationship to the people around us; our family, friends, coworkers and neighbors. Sometimes we are strangers who cannot remember each others names but we have been neighbors for years so we are too embarrassed to ask now. Some of our relationships are torn by pain and mistakes and time makes us seem even more distant. We have true relationships with relatively few people, but why? Most often our relationships suffer because we are afraid to be open with each other. As we grow closer to God, we live in the light, that means there are less shadows to hide in so we become more open with the people around us. The more open we are with each other, the closer our relationship become.

We recognize that none of us is perfect and we are all in different stages of our relationship to God and the people around us. We are on a journey to a closer relationship with God and people. The people who are Living Word Church are in a process of growing in a closer relationship with God and the people around us.
