What is God's will for your life?
God is awesome, all powerful and all knowing. Existing outside of time above His creation He has the perfect perspective on the world and living in it. So how do we gain God's insight and perspective, "God's will" on our life and daily living?
God's prophet Micah shares God's Word with us (Micah 6:8) as it relates to discerning God's will for our lives."He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"
What is God's will for our lives?
God's desire for us is that we would live lives characterized by justice, kindness and walking in a close relationship with Him. Living in justice is operating in righteousness, that is we live right in relationship with God and the people we come into contact with.
~ Is our life marked by living rightly or are we trying to get one over on the people around us? ~
Are we living honestly and openly, or are we hiding in the shadows of life. Are we in an open relationship with our family and friends and God Himself?
God's will is for us to live righteously. God wants us to love kindness. Kindness is the opposite of violence, it is gentle and caring. God's will is not only concerned with our do's and don'ts but also with the very desires of our hearts. He longs for His people to be like Him, to love compassion. That our first love and motive would be to live with sympathy and kindness toward each other, even those who we do know know, people who are different or less fortunate.
Is my first motive to love kindness or to love myself and seek my own interests above all others? God's will for our lives is that we would truly love kindness, that it would be a primary motivator in our daily living and behavior in this world. God's will for us is that we would walk humbly with Him.
What Does It Mean To 'Walk With God?"
God often uses the word "walk" as a word picture to describe the long term relationship between us. It is a picture of a close personal relationship. In the beginning, before man ever knew sin and the separation it creates, God walked with Adam in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day. Some the closest moments with my wife are times when we walked in the woods together. God desires a close relationship with us, walking together, same direction, same pace, intimacy. God's desire is that our walk with Him be humble, that we see ourselves in light of who God is, the Almighty. We are His children, His creation, His possesion.
In the presence of the God of all that exissts, how can we not be humbled by His enormity and our relative smallness and limitations. Yet in all of His splendor and greatness, God loves us. God expresses His love toward us in this, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
